Hello!
My name is Ambria Small, and I am excited to introduce myself as the new Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) Extension Educator for Champaign County. I am thrilled to join the OSU’s Extension team and to begin working with this vibrant community. As we gear up for the growing season, I look forward to meeting many of you and building connections.
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you all: I grew up in the Warren County, near Dayton, and graduated from Carlisle High School in 2011. I began my college journey at the Ohio State University in the pre-vet program but soon found my calling in Plant Pathology. During my undergraduate years, I worked as a student research assistant in the Nematology Laboratory and graduated with a B.S. in Plant Health Management.
After graduation, I joined Battelle Memorial Institute’s Crop Protection Department, where I worked on agricultural chemical drift and volatility research using advanced environmental testing systems. My career later expanded into supporting COVID-19 diagnostic labs, viral research, and the development of agricultural biostimulant technologies. This interest led me to 3Bar Biologics, where I contributed to innovation in live microbe packaging for improved product viability.
Driven by a desire to return to field research and education, I rejoined OSU to pursue my M.S. in Plant Pathology. My thesis focused on the relationship between soybean cyst nematode (SCN) population dynamics and soil health across Ohio. This work took me to farms throughout the state, deepening my appreciation for Ohio’s agricultural diversity and the importance of Extension outreach.
Now, as your ANR Educator, I’m eager to help translate OSU research into practical, impactful knowledge for our local growers and community members. My goal is to build a strong, responsive ANR program that supports your needs and fosters collaboration.
Stay tuned for updates and upcoming events! I’m currently getting involved in local activities and would love to meet you. One event already on my calendar is the Champaign County Fair (August 1–8). I hope to see you there!
Best,
Ambria Small
