It is hard to find time to spend together as a family in today’s hectic schedules. Even sitting down to dinner is a struggle. This winter, OSU Extension is offering a series where families can come together for a warm, wholesome meal and gain knowledge to strengthen their farm business as well. Farming is a family business and it is important for all members of the family to have some understanding of what it takes to keep the business running and support the family. This is especially true if there is a desire for the next generation to be involved.

Farmers and farmland owners are invited to register for a two-hour webinar that focuses on the new tax law as it relates to farm returns. The webinar is being hosted by OSU Extension’s Income Tax School Department on Monday, January 7, from 10:00 – noon.
General taxpayer topics to be covered include the new modified tax brackets, standard deductions, elimination of the personal exemption, elimination or change of many Schedule A deductions, the increase in the Child Tax Credit, creation of the new Dependent Credit and an update on education provisions.

Calling all Cattlemen! Join us Dec 13 for an educational evening focused on cattle production and marketing. Dr. Joy Rumble with the Department of Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership at Ohio State will talk about the future of cultured meat. She will also discuss consumer perception of livestock care and use. This will give producers an idea of where the industry is heading and how you can prepare your operation to meet consumer demands. Dr. Steve Boyles, with the Department of Animal Science at Ohio State will discuss beef nutrition and management.

Work with the Master Gardener Volunteers to clean, sharpen and winterize your gardening tools. Cleaning tools is important to prevent the spread of diseases to next year's crop. It is also important to keep them in good working condition. This can be easily done each year. Learn how by joining us on Oct 2 at 5pm. An updated comprehensive plan provides a basic road map to current and prospective citizens, businesses, public officials, and developers.

Hop production in Ohio has increased in recent years as the craft beer industry has rapidly expanded throughout the state. According to the Ohio Craft Beer Association, there are currently 278 craft breweries in Ohio with 65 more in the planning stages, and Ohio is ranked 5th in the nation in craft beer production. Hops, a climbing plant, are a key ingredient in beer brewing, and many breweries are interested in including locally grown ingredients in their products.
