    The Champaign County’s comprehensive plan is a way to inventory current conditions and set goals for how the county will look in the future.  The last plan was updated in 2004.   An updated comprehensive plan provides a basic road map to current and prospective citizens, businesses, public officials, and developers.

  2. Hops Production and Management Field Day

    Hop production in Ohio has increased in recent years as the craft beer industry has rapidly expanded throughout the state. According to the Ohio Craft Beer Association, there are currently 278 craft breweries in Ohio with 65 more in the planning stages, and Ohio is ranked 5th in the nation in craft beer production. Hops, a climbing plant, are a key ingredient in beer brewing, and many breweries are interested in including locally grown ingredients in their products.

  3. Fly Fishing Workshop

    Interested in learning to fly fish? The Mad River offers great fly fishing opportunities right here in Champaign County. Donnie Knight with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and owner of Ohio Fly By Knight river guide service will teach participants about fishing tactics, handling, gear, species and habitat. This workshop is free and begins at 6pm on July 11. We will meet at the Mad River where it crosses US-36 west of Urbana. If you have a fly fishing rod, please bring it. Some will be provided for those who do not own one. No experience is required.

  4. Elementary Schools Release Butterflies

    In mid-May, elementary schools around the county released Painted Lady butterflies they raised from larvae in the classroom. The Master Gardener Volunteers provide larvae each year to every 2nd grade class in the county through sponsorships from local businesses.

    It seems like the weather went straight from winter to summer this year. Plants went from dormant to green in the blink of an eye. The Master Gardener Volunteers have already been busy helping homeowners improve their gardens through seminars and the helpline.

    Land is an important investment. One that is often passed down through generations. Farmland needs to be monitored and cared for to maintain the value and sustainability if it is to be enjoyed and profitable for future generations. Nearly 50% of landowners in Ohio are female. If you fall into this statistic and want to learn more about your land, farming and conservation practices and how to successfully pass it on to the next generation, this program is for you!

  7. 2017 Judging and Fair Results

    The 2017 Champaign County 4-H season has come to a close. What an exciting time we have had with all of the judgings, skillathons and finally the 176th Champaign County Fair! There have been some excellent projects exhibited, both animal and non-animal. A special acknowledgement goes to our 4-H Boy of the Year-John Kent, 4-H Girl of the Year-Emily Wilson, 4-H Advisor of the Year-Mary Rose and Fair Queen-Ashton Arnett.   9. Champaign Co. 4-H Flea Market Concession

    For many years, the Champaign County 4-H Family & Consumer Sciences Committee has sponsored a concession stand at the Flea Market held the 1st full weekend of the month at the Champaign County Fairgrounds. The profit from the concession stand sponsors many awards that are given to 4-H members, helps fund home economics type project camps and awards college scholarships to well-deserving 4-H members who exhibit their projects in the 4-H Activities Building.

  10. 4-H Committee T-Shirt Sale

    The Champaign County 4-H Committee is selling 4-H t-shirts as a fund-raiser. There are some colors and sizes available for immediate sale but any color or size may be ordered .
